I ended my long break from movies with the film adaptation of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984). It’s a difficult to watch film but will definitely leave some interesting threads to wander about when it’s over. Continue reading Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984)

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring (2003)
I had been longing to watch the South Korean film Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring for a while but wasn’t quite sure if the slow paced movie would match my taste. To my surprise, I found it completely different from my pre-notion. Sprint, Summer… is one of the best films I have watched in a while and left a strong impression. Continue reading Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring (2003)
5 Centimetres Per Second (2007)
There are very few romantic movies which deal only in love and still don’t get boring. 5 Centimetres Per Second (Byôsoku 5 Senchimêtoru) from Japan belongs to that rare class. Continue reading 5 Centimetres Per Second (2007)
Memories of Murder [Salinui Chueok] (2003)
I had been longing to watch Memories of Murder for a while and finally made it during the weekend. It’s an intense thriller from South Korea and one of the best adaptations of crimes committed in real life. Continue reading Memories of Murder [Salinui Chueok] (2003)
Mr. Robot (2015-)
Despite the omnipresent nature of the IT industry, there aren’t too many TV series or programs which take a close look at the software industry or the people involved in it. We reviewed Silicon Valley in an earlier article. While Silicon Valley dwells in the nature of the IT industry and how the lives of the engineers are, Continue reading Mr. Robot (2015-)
Ahalya (2015)
Ahalya is a 14-minute suspense short from director Sujoy Ghosh. The characters names are loosely based on a tale from The Ramayana, the Hindu epic from India. However, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. A review would have spoiled the entertainment so I decided to link the video directly. Watch it yourself! Continue reading Ahalya (2015)
Kai Po Che! (2013)
A friend suggested Kai Po Che! recently and despite my disregard for Bollywood movies I watched it. While the high user-rating on IMDB was one of the reasons, Chetan Bhagat as the author intrigued me. Continue reading Kai Po Che! (2013)
Paddington (2014)
Paddington was supposed to be a comedy for children with a lost bear as the central character. However, I found all the characters other than the protagonist funny. The storyline is OK, the movie sets the right expectations in the first 10 minutes, and then it all vanishes as you hear the voice of the baby bear. Continue reading Paddington (2014)
Ex Machina (2015)
A Sci-Fi with a high rating on IMDB; I had high hopes when I started watching Ex Machina. However, I found that it’s a disappointing cocktail of Pi and Her. When you are watching a Sci-Fi you would seek something more than continued sessions leading to a human-AI romantic relationship. Continue reading Ex Machina (2015)
Wild Tales [Relatos Salvajes] (2014)
I have watched a number of movies with parallel narratives. Some of them connect at the end to send a unique message, some don’t but still convey a meaning through a singular theme. The Argentine film Wild Tales is of the second type and presents six short stories beautifully. Continue reading Wild Tales [Relatos Salvajes] (2014)
