Check file size without download

tux_compIf you just want to check the size of a file without downloading it, a smart way to do it on Linux is:

wget --spider file_url

There’s a catch, if the HEAD response doesn’t have the Content-Length field you won’t get the size. Another example – when the content is created on the fly on request, e.g. an archive created with latest content on the server when a client sends the download request.
