Get back disabled GRUB prompt on Ubuntu

In case you end up with a broken Ubuntu boot-up and have hidden your GRUB menu at boot totally, you may be wondering how to get the GRUB menu back so that you can edit the kernel parameters or login to a single mode. My GRUB menu related settings are:

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=0

and today I hit the same problem – the OS was not booting up and my GRUB menu won’t show so that I can change things back. I booted the system using SliTaz and found a backdoor to get the GRUB menu back by overriding all the grub configuration settings –

While booting the system press SHIFT and the GRUB menu will show up. 🙂
