GCstar Collection Manager

GCstar (my favourite collection manager on Ubuntu) 1.7.0 is released this month after a long wait. It has added dependencies on many small Perl modules. However, the speed seems to be faster and UI is smoother. Fully compatible with the old collection files. GCstar can handle the following types of collections:

  • Movies
  • Video games
  • Books
  • Music
  • Numismatic
  • Wines
  • Board games
  • Comic books
  • TV shows episodes
  • Stamps
  • Periodicals
  • Mini vehicles
  • Smart cards
  • TV shows (series)
  • Computer software
  • User defined collections

To install on Ubuntu:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gcstar/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gcstar

To install the latest development version of GCStar on Ubuntu, run:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rockclimb/gcstar-daily
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gcstar

1. Item list cannot be exported. I raised a bug on GCStar. There is a possible workaround.
2. Even the previous stable version cannot fetch movie information from IMDB. Let’s face it, IMDB is the most preferred site to fetch movie information. On 1.7.0 you need to get the latest updates to get this woking. Use the following command

$ sudo gcstart --update
